Dash in the Dark – A Unique Nighttime Mushing Experience
The Siberian Husky Club of NSW invites you to experience the thrill of nighttime racing with Dash in the Dark, an event that pays homage to the traditional transport of mushing and couriering goods or people through the night. Unlike our other events, Dash in the Dark challenges both mushers and their teams in a format that truly embraces the heritage of sled dog racing.
Race Format
The race begins on Saturday, 12th July 2025, in a NSW State Forest, starting in the late afternoon with Canicross. As the night progresses, the event moves through the race classes, gradually increasing the team sizes until reaching the impressive 6 or 8-dog teams under the cover of darkness. The following morning, Sunday, 13th July 2025, the race format is reversed—6 or 8-dog classes take off first at dawn, gradually working back down through the classes, with Canicross being the last event of the morning.
This structure ensures an exhilarating and immersive experience for competitors and spectators alike, celebrating the skill and endurance required for true mushing adventures.
Location & Safety
The race occurs within a State Forest in NSW or occasionally the ACT, offering a stunning natural backdrop for the competition. Safety is paramount, and all races are managed and facilitated by the club’s committee members and experienced volunteers. Easily identified by their bright yellow vests, these passionate individuals ensure a safe and fair racing environment for both dogs and mushers.
A Celebration of Tradition & Community
As the Siberian Husky Club of NSW, we take pride in celebrating the breed’s rich history and working heritage through events like Dash in the Dark. This unique nighttime race honours the tradition of mushing under the stars, where human and canine teams navigate the trails together with trust and determination. While deeply rooted in sled dog racing, this event is open to all breeds, welcoming both experienced mushers and newcomers alike. Whether you’re chasing the competition or simply seeking an unforgettable adventure, Dash in the Dark offers a thrilling test of teamwork, endurance, and the spirit of the sport.
