Learn everything from sled handling to racing in the Iditarod from Iditarod veteran musher Bill Cotter.

Beginner mushers will learn how to feed, care and harness dogs plus the art of sled handling and manoeuvering.  They will mush their own team each day.

Intermediate mushers will learn everything about racing.  Care and feeding in races, camping, medical care of dogs, booties - when and how to use, race strategies and running test schedules.  They can also lease a team and run a qualifying race.  Once they qualify they can then run the Iditarod or Yukon Quest.

Sledding

SHCNSW hosts a variety of dog sledding events between May and September each year, at locations such as Belanglo State Forest, Wingello State Forest. The premier event is The Sled Dog Shield held in July, and point score competition events are held throughout the season.

We start the season with "Mush Up", and conclude it with "Mush Down" and at all events, 1 and 2 dog classes pull 2-wheeled scooters, while 3 or more dogs pull various types of 3 and 4 wheeled rigs.

Please check the calendar below for full details of the 2014 events.

Free Intro to Sledding Day

The club runs a free Introduction to Sledding Day each year in April or May, just before Mush Up.

This event is open to the public and you don't need any experience
or equipment, just your dog - and a bicycle helmet if you have one.

So come along and see what sledding is all about and give it a go yourself on the day!
