A puppy mill or puppy farm is a large dog breeding facility created to mass produce puppies for profit.

Likened to battery hens, the breeding dogs are kept in cages or pens for their entire life with the sole purpose of producing puppies for the pet shop, internet and overseas markets.

Pet shops require a constant supply of cute, young puppies and individual shops can take more than 20 a week. Multiply that by the number of pet shops found in shopping centres throughout Australia and you have the perfect distribution network for an industry producing hundreds of puppies with little concern paid to quality, health or temperament.

 Stop Puppy Mills

Hundreds of thousands of puppies are mass-bred each year for sale in pet shops or through web sites and newspaper classifieds. Help the HSUS spread the word about puppy mills with two freely downloadable fliers, "How to Find a Good Dog Breeder" and "How to Buy a Puppy"

Huskies for Adoption

See below for a list of dogs currently

looking for homes

In Foster Care means:

The dog listed is currently being fostered by member of Husky Rescue.  Please contact the rescue volunteer listed with each profile, for more information about that dog.  All dogs in foster care are initially available to their new homes on a trial basis.  Please note that ages listed may be an estimate.

Private Re-homing means:

The dog listed is being re-homed by their owner, and is currently residing either with them, with their family, or in a kennel.  Whilst the registration details of each dog have been verified with council records, the accuracy of descriptions provided for each dog cannot be guaranteed.  Husky Rescue recommends organising a time to meet with the owner and their dog, before considering adoption, and trial periods may not be available in all cases.  Please note that ages may be an estimate.

SASHA

In Foster Care

Sasha  -  black and white female with bright blue eyes
Born 30 June 2011

This young girl was surrendered by her owners with a broken front leg
after being hit by a car while out loose.  The wrist has been repaired
with a plate and screws and she should be 100% in a couple of months.
There may be an increased possibility of arthritis as she ages.  Sasha
needs to learn house manners and obedience exercises, and as she is very
active and so young, is looking for a Husky-experienced home with a
secure yard and fences. A family where someone is home most of the time,
and where she is allowed indoors would be the forever home Sasha is
waiting for.  Located near Canberra, she is vaccinated, desexed, wormed
and microchipped, and is available now for a donation of $ 250.

To find out more about Sasha or to arrange to meet her please contact:

KODA

Private Re-homing

Meet Koda, a 4 ½ year old male pure bred Siberian husky who is desexed, heartwormed and all wormed, vaccinated, microchipped and lifetime registered.

Koda was adopted by his current owner several years ago, from his previous owner who raised him from a puppy.  Unfortunately now his current owner must move to an apartment and Koda is unable to move with her.

Koda has been mainly an outdoor dog, and lived all his life with a Staffy X Kelpie named Jett (who has gone to a good home elsewhere already, but is pictured below).  Koda would love the chance to live as an indoor dog at times, and is well behaved inside.

Koda has a gorgeous personality and with his striking blue eyes and coat markings people always stop him on the street to pat him.  He is generally a quiet dog.  Koda doesn't jump up on people, and is not possessive of his food with people, but does protect his food or toys from other dogs who try and take it.  He would suit an older family or couple as he has a fairly relaxed temperament.

Koda can be timid of new experiences and some strangers and things like car lights at night and the sound of strong wind, but otherwise has a relaxed and friendly personality.  He has never shown aggression towards strangers, he just doesn't like things that are unfamiliar.  His new owner will be provided with information on how to help him relax and enjoy the world with simple training exercises.  He has always been treated with love and respect, and grew up around children and teenagers.

Koda is walked regularly to give him exercise, and recently he has been walked in an Easy Walk harness to help reduce his habit of pulling on leash.  He often plays off lead in the park and generally comes back when called.  He can get excited when he sees a new dog and he he can react to small yappy dogs or dogs who threaten him directly by growling at them so avoiding meetings with other dogs is best.  He enjoys a tummy rub and being brushed, but doesn't enjoy baths.

Koda's new home will need an appropriate yard with some grass and secure 6 foot fences, and should not have any small pets including birds, guinea pigs or cats.

Koda needs a home where he will be an only-dog so his adopter must not have any other dogs.

Koda is located in Greenacre NSW 2190 and is available for adoption immediately for a $200 donation to Husky Rescue which will go towards the cost of helping other dogs in need.  He needs find a new home by the end of May.
