Resist the temptation to buy that gorgeous kitten or puppy in the window. Because this lucrative pet shop market exists in Australia, backyard breeders and "puppy farms" who supply to pet shops continue to churn out more and more poor puppies and kittens, much to the detriment of the animals.

Stop Puppy Mills

Hundreds of thousands of puppies are mass-bred each year for sale in pet shops or through web sites and newspaper classifieds. Help the HSUS spread the word about puppy mills with two freely downloadable fliers, "How to Find a Good Dog Breeder" and "How to Buy a Puppy"

Huskies for Adoption

See below for a list of dogs currently

looking for homes

The dogs listed below have been placed in Husky Rescue foster homes.  Please contact the rescue volunteer listed with each profile, for more information about a particular dog.  All dogs in foster care are initially available to their new homes on a trial basis.

   Paris

Paris is a lovely calm 2yr old female husky,  black and white with one blue eye and one brown eye which is very common with huskies. She was surrendered to the pound along with Bailey (listed below) when their owners fences could not contain them and they were constantly roaming the streets.

Since being in foster care Paris has not tried to escape and is happy being confined to a fully fenced yard. This is something which is a must for all huskies as their love to run and explore will lead them to test weak fences.

A commitment to ongoing training as well as involvement in the families daily activities will keep Paris happy and content in her new home.

Paris will be desexed, heartworm treated, vaccinated and registered before leaving for her new home.

She will go on a 4 week trial to see how she fits in with your family.

 Bailey

Bailey is a 2yr old Male Siberian Husky. He is Black & White and has warm brown eyes.

Bailey was surrendered to the pound along with Paris when they were constantly wondering the streets. He is fit and healthy boy who need alots of mental and physical stimulation to keep him calm and happy.

Bailey will need ongoing training at his new home as he is a young dog who relishes in human and canine attention. A home with another dog and/or someone who is home most of the day would suit Bailey as he can become quite stressed when left on his own.

Like all huskies he is not the type of dog that can be left in a backyard on his own for long periods of time. Daily exercise is must for a young dog like Bailey

Bailey MUST be allowed inside with his human family as he craves attention and will become destructive and whine if left on his own. The company of another dog would benefit him greatly.

Bailey will be desexed, heartworm treated, vaccinated and registered before leaving for his new home.

He will go on a 4 week trial to see how he fits in with your family.

Angel

Angel is a 2yr old female Siberian Husky, grey & white with beautiful brown eyes. She came into care after she was not collected from a Sydney Pound.

Angel has been well cared for and knows basic obedience such as sit, stay and shake hands. She is a quiet girl and is not a howler or a talker like some huskies.

Angel is housetrained and is very quiet indoors and is happy to sleep on her bed or the couch if allowed.

Whilst in foster care Angel has lived with 3 young children and gets on well with them all. If she has had enough of playing she simply walks away and finds a quiet spot to retreat.

Angel gets on well with both male and female dogs of a similar size. She would not be suited to a house with cats or other smaller sized animals as she does have a high prey drive which is typical of the breed. She loves to laze in the sun and is often found on the childrens trampoline.

Like all huskies she will need to be involved in the daily activities of her human family or she will try and find attention elsewhere which could lead to her escaping. A secure yard is a must and care would need to be taken to make sure gates, doors etc are not left open or she will run.

Angel is a sweet gentle natured girl who would make a great addition to her new family.

Angel comes desexed, vaccinated and registered for the adoption fee of $300 to Husky Rescue.

She is located in Douglas Park and will go a 4 week trail period to see if she fits in with your family.

Hercules

Hercules is a stunning silver grey and white 7-year-old male Siberian Husky with big brown eyes.

Hercules has come into foster care due to his owners relocating.

Hercules is an affectionate, quiet boy who is not a digger and who has been used to living in a well-manicured garden. In the past Hercules has been an outside dog but like all Huskies would just love to be allowed in to be with his owners all the time.

Hercules has a little middle age spread but with more consistent walks and playing he will trim down.  He loves, loves, loves his walks and is great when meeting other dogs during his outings. Like most huskies, he is very keen to set out on walks and pulls initially yet calms down and walks well after a short time.  He will do well with more training to teach him to walk on a loose lead.

Hercules has been used to living with a female husky and would do well in a household with a canine companion and owners who can spend time with him. He is a loving boy who is looking for the right family to give him the attention all huskies need.

He loves to play; however, he can find the attentions of small children a bit overwhelming so he is looking for a home with older children or just adults.

Hercules is desexed, vaccinated, wormed and micro-chipped.  He is currently located in Drummoyne NSW and will go on a 4-week trial to see if he fits with your family.

The dogs listed below are being re-homed by their owners.  Whilst the registration details of each dog have been verified with council records, the accuracy of descriptions provided for each dog cannot be guaranteed.  Husky Rescue recommends organising a time to meet with the owner and their dog, before considering adoption, as trial periods may not be available in all cases.

 Storm

Storm, is a loving and happy 6 years old Siberian Husky.  She is very affectionate, sweet, easy going and has a good temperament. She just loves people and socializing. She is happy to spend a quiet afternoon with you in front of the T.V. or just as keen to go for a run or walk with you along the beach, in the bush or to the park.  She has been to a few husky picnics at the Parramatta park and to see the sleds in winter close to Bundanoon.

She is used to being around adults and even though she is an only dog she likes to play with other medium size or big dogs. Storm is in excellent good physical shape and in good health. Storm was purchased from a breeder and has all her papers in order.  She is been desexed, microchipped and has a full medical history available. Storm has had her yearly heart worm vaccination.

Storm is used to a little luxury in life. Being an indoor and outdoor girl she loves her fluffy bed at night-time and spends time with who ever is at home. During working hours she spends her time outside in our fully fenced back yard.  She, like all Huskies would need to go to a home that has high secure fencing.

Storm does not like cats so would need to go to a family without smaller animals and cats.

As our situation has changed Storm is spending a lot of time on her own which we find very sad. She is not getting the care and company she so much needs. It is breaking our hearts to have to rehome her, but we believe this is the best option for her.

She is a great dog and she will bring a lot of fun, love and happiness to a new family. We will like to keep in touch with the new owner to see how she is going and find out if she is adapting well, as well as helping the new owner with any questions.

Storm is used to car travel and remains quiet and calm during the trip in the back seat.

Storm has been to puppy school, so she knows a few tricks, like giving you her paw (for a treat or two), lying down and sitting. She is a very affectionate dog and will always receive you and your friends with a waggy tail, little circles and plenty of vocals. Storm has been well socialised as a puppy, she takes food gently from the hand.  She is a submissive dog who loves a belly rub.

Storm is located in Sydney, St. George area. Close to Brighton Le Sands Beach.

She is available for a $300 donation to Husky Rescue.

 Lyco

Meet Lyco, a 7 year old desexed boy looking for a new home.

Lyco is currently living happily in a family which includes a staffy and two small children.  He is house trained and sleeps indoors, but is content to be outside when the people are away from home.

Although he has basic obediance and walks well on lead, he would benefit from some added training in his new home.

A fairly typical Husky, Lyco will test fences and escape if he is able so fences will need to be a minimum of 1800 mm high.

He is located in Sydney.

If you think you could give Lyco a good home and would like to meet him please call -

Shayla

This Beautiful Siberian Husky has been with me for 6 months.

Her name is Shayla and she is 6 years old. She has a fabulous temperament. She is calm and shy however her shyness quickly goes when she becomes comfortable.

Shayla's original owner couldn't keep his two huskies as he was unable to find a big enough property after his parents divorced.

Shayla has adjusted a lot recently as her brother dog has been rehoused and she  is on her own when I’m at work. However after only a few days she has adjusted quickly and had developed a love of watching movies especially ones with animals and other Siberian husky’s.

She is a delight, she likes walks and I have confirmed with the original owner she had gone to dog training school.

She is house trained and she knows to go to the toilet outside. She also prefers to sleep outside. She loves swimming especially in summer and I have taken her to lakes at parks’ and she particularly liked swimming there.

She has such an understanding and loving character and she is very in tune and is a laid back dog.

Shayla deserves a very caring and loving home and will prove she can settle instantly and quickly become a sentimental loved one.

She  very rarely  barks-the only time I can recall is when I took the male dog for a walk on his own for the last time and left her at home (she is always used to going for walks with him).

She is desexed, micro chipped, vaccinated, heart wormed and  all wormed. Two of her molar teeth have become decayed and the vet has told me need to be extracted eventually although it is not an urgent matter . The cost for extraction I was quoted was $250.

Shayla is available for a $300 donation to Husky Rescue.

She is located in Strathfield, Sydney

Sasha

Sasha is a 3.5 yo female siberian husky in need of a new family.

Sasha has been a bit of a jet setter, living in different parts of the country as her owner moved around with work. Unfortunately it has got to the stage where Sasha’s owner will now be away from home and overseas so much that she cannot provide Sasha with the amount of love and exercise that she needs.

Until Sasha finds a new home that can offer her all the things a Husky needs, she is staying with Grandma and Grandad and our two older dogs. While we can give her the love, we don’t have the time to give her the exercise or attention she needs.

Our dogs are both older and are happy just to lay around in the sun and go for walks a couple of days a week. It’s a bit like a teenager having to live in a geriatric home.  Sasha deserves better than that.

Sasha is a lovely dog.  While she shows all the quirky traits of a Husky, none of them create a problem. She sings and talks, but never very loud and usually only in the morning or when you come home - to remind you that she would like a cuddle. She likes to escape, but only if the opportunity presents itself - such as a gate left open.  She doesn’t create the opportunity by digging, climbing or jumping.

She loves to play chasing, but is not self motivated to exercise – hence she is a couple of kilos overweight at the moment, but will quickly lose that with more exercise. We’ve discovered she doesn’t like having her photo taken – for some reason she seems to think the camera pointing at her means she has done something wrong – or maybe she is just conscious of her weight.

She gets on OK with our other dogs – so long as there are no bones around. She is becoming tolerant of our Jack Russell sharing her biscuits, but won’t share with our Border Collie.  Sasha has in the past lived and shared very happily with a German Shepherd and has stayed with her best friend -another Shepherd – they used to play together all day. However she did not get on well with a Spaniel she stayed with.  Chances are if she was introduced properly and kept apart when food is around, Sasha would get on well with another large young dog.

Sasha is well behaved on a long lead, but could do with a little more training if you wanted her to heel.  She loves long walks and even more so going for a jog. She is not that interested in the scenery or smells as are most dogs – she would prefer to head off along the road or track and see where it leads her. She sits and drops well on command and waits until she is told she can eat.

She tolerates a Hydro bath but is not that interested in swimming, though she has a paddling pool that she stands in to cool her feet after a walk.

She is very keen on chasing cats, possums, lizards, mice  and low, slow  flying birds, so would not put her in a home that had ‘pocket’ pets.  She hasn’t been exposed to young children, so would be cautious of a home with little people who might not know how to treat her. She is an outside dog at the moment, but is well behaved when allowed inside and would like the constant company if allowed inside.

Sasha is such a delightful dog, we want to see her go to a home that can keep her entertained and exercised and where she can return lots of love.

Sasha is available now for a $300 donation to Husky Rescue.

She is currently located at Maitland NSW (Hunter Valley)

 Keira & Cody

Meet Cody and Keira, two beautiful 3 year old Siberian huskies who are brother and sister. They have lived with the same owners since they were twelve weeks old but as their owners are moving overseas they need to find a new family to love and shower with affection.

Both dogs are desexed, microchipped, vaccinated, heart wormed and all wormed. They have no medical conditions though Keira had to have an Achilles tendon repaired and it has since healed beautifully and she suffers no ongoing problems from it.

Both dogs have brown eyes and a thick, soft coat-Cody is mostly red with some white and Keira is a lighter red and white. Cody and Keira were bred by a registered breeder and have pedigree papers and have been with their current owner since they were 12 weeks old.

Cody and Keira would love to go to a new home together so they can continue keeping each other company whether that is playing or just lying quietly. Having the two dogs together has worked very well at their current home as huskies are pack animals and love company!

Both dogs are extremely friendly and playful and have had no aggression issues with humans or other dogs. After a quick sniff of a new friend they quickly settle down and are ready to play-they adore lots of pats.

Keira and Cody are both housetrained and spend time both indoors and out. They usually sleep outside but love to snuggle up near you on a rug and sleep indoors if the weather is bad. Their landscaping efforts have been confined to one small hole that they like to sit in to cool off and giving them chew toys has helped distract them from digging.

Both dogs have had basic obedience training and know the commands sit, stay, down and shake. As with all huskies new owners should be committed to ongoing training to build a relationship with them and daily exercise to keep them from becoming bored and destructive.

Being huskies they can be dominant with small dogs and would need to go to a home with no small dogs or pocket pets. While they have never tried to escape they need secure fencing which is at least 6 foot in height to keep them safe.

Cody and Keira are located in Pacific Pines on the Gold Coast, Queensland and are each available for a $200 donation to Husky Rescue.

Beautiful Yukon is being cared for by the Tweed Heads RSPCA .. here's what they have to say about him....

This is a lovely dog with a great disposition. He loves to give kisses to those he trusts. Yukon walks well on a lead, tolerates cats but would be better in a home without pocket pets. Yukon came to use with a previous injury which we have corrected but he will need a responsible owner who will create limits for him. please ring to make an appointment to meet him.
